An inspiring journey of 55 years

The USD 215 Million Merino Group is a global leader in the business of Laminates and Panels today. But this incredible journey of excellence started 55 years ago with a profound vision of its illustrious founders.

It all started in Kolkata, West Bengal in the year 1967 with a vision of synergizing western work culture and Indian ethos to achieve global competence and competitiveness.

The first step was the establishment of the group’s Potato cold Storage facility at Hapur, Uttar Pradesh in 1968. The subsequent year saw the start of Lohia group’s first commercial plywood manufacturing facility in 1974 at Makum, Assam. Yes, for that’s what the group was initially named in the year 1968. It would have to wait for a decade before the name Merino was adopted. The name comes from its brand name of plywood that became popular in the market. In 1978, the group was formally named Merino.

Soon in 1981, the Merino group established its first High-Pressure Decorative Laminate Manufacturing Facility at Hapur. Over a period of time, this facility established Merino’s manufacturing prowess, and in the year 1994, Merino achieved the laurels of being the “Highest Exporter of Decorative Laminates”. Focused on the vision of global competence and competitiveness, the group added its second High-Pressure Decorative Laminate Manufacturing Facility in 1995 at Rohad, Haryana.

In 2002, the Merino Group broke new grounds with their first Flat Furniture Manufacturing Facility at Hapur, and subsequently, in 2003, it added another facility with the set up of its first Low-Pressure Decorative Laminate Manufacturing at Hapur. The year 2003 was a game-changer in the laminate industry as Merino installed India’s Largest High-Pressure Laminate Press measuring 14 X 6 ft at its existing Hapur facility. In 2004, the group collaborated with BESCO, Singapore for its latest Restroom Cubicles Manufacturing Facility at Hapur.

The year 2005 saw Merino diversifying into Agro and Food Products with the setup of India's First Potato Flake Manufacturing Plant and the launch of Brand VEGIT. In 2006, Merino added its second Low-Pressure Decorative Laminate Manufacturing Facility at Hosur, Tamil Nadu.

Merino group forayed into Information technology in 2007 with the launch of Merino Services, the group’s IT solutions arm.

Evolution is at the heart of Merino’s business and the same was reflected with the group’s first State of the Art Flat Furniture Manufacturing Facility in 2013 at Achheja near Hapur and a second facility in 2016 at Hosur. In 2017, the group established its third High-Pressure Decorative Laminate Manufacturing Facility at Dahej, Gujarat to mark its stamp of superiority on global laminate markets.

This incredible journey of 55 years is far from over.

As a global leader with its constant endeavor of creating technologically superior products, the Merino Group is constantly pushing new boundaries and rightfully achieving its mission of universal wealth through trade and industry.

The 55 years of excellence is not a piece of history or story but a glorious present that reflects the efforts of the past. This excellence is amplified at the Merino Experience Centre (MEC) - a glorious exhibit of all Merino panel products and brands in a single retail space. Showcasing Merino’s prowess in manufacturing and technology, the MEC offers a first-hand experience of Merino’s diverse world of design, aesthetics, and functionality.
